    Chris Davies on the Aviation accidents in the Cheviot Hills. (Free for Hostel Residents)
    Guided Walk by Reiver Guiding of the sites (£15pp)
    2nd June – 3rd June 2018
    Chris Davies has agreed to come along to the Wooler Youth Hostel on the 2nd June at 7:30pm and give a talk on the events leading up to these tragic accidents and also what happened in the aftermath. 
    The next Day (Sunday 3rd June) Reiver Guiding (Based at the Hostel) in conjunction with Lone Tree Hill Outdoor experience will be hosting a guided walk (approx. 10 miles) to visit these sites on the Cheviot.

The McWilliams Round

The McWilliams Round

A new round for the North East of England designed by Glen McWilliams of Wooler and Northumberland Fell runners.

The round is in three sections, and is designed to be done at your leisure.

Short Route: 32 miles - Wooler WW2 Memorial, St Cuthberts Way, Pennine Way, The Cheviot, Carey Burn, Wooler WW2 Memorial.

Long Route: TBC

Section 1 & 2 are parts of two national long distance routes.
They are clearly marked and well defined.

SECTION 1 - St Cuthbert's Way
Distance: 12miles
Start: Wooler WW1 Memorial, Church Street Wooler.
Route: Down the 46 steps immediately onto the st Cuthbert's way. Head north for 8 miles to Hethpool, college valley, (a good support stop).continue for 3.5 miles arriving at Pennine way, sign post.

SECTION 2- Pennine Way to Cheviot Summit.
Distance: 8miles
Route: Heading south West for 5 miles arriving at Auchope mountain hut, (nice place for a spot of lunch. Don't forget to sign the visitors book).
Continue along the Pennine way until signpost for Cheviot Summit. Head to Summit Cairn.

SECTION 3- Chevy Chase route to Wooler 12 miles

If you haven't done the Chevy you might find this a bit tricky.

Route: From Cheviot Summit head to top of hedgehope (5m).
Facing eastward head to Brands corner.
Continue to the Carey Burn bridge, (welcome support stop) . From the bridge follow the Carey burn for 1.5 miles turning up the dreaded hells path!
Finally, the long run into Wooler.

FINISH-well done!

Climb up the 46 steps and touch the railings around the WW2 memorial.
